Activity #:
"How's The Weather?" is a soothing song for
talking about the weather. We keep it simple with four terms for describing the
weather: sunny, rainy, cloudy, and snowy. These are the easiest weather
concepts for toddlers to understand, and they are easy to gesture too! This
song is a great lead-in to further discussion of weather and weather-related
terms.
During the pause after the questions, "Is it
sunny/rainy/cloudy/snowy?" children have time to do the gesture.
Key Gestures:
Weather- We make a “w”
with the three middle fingers on each hand and then we twist them back and
forth.
Sunny- We make a big circle over our head with our arms.
Rainy- We wiggle our fingers down in front of us, simulating
rain.
Cloudy- We squeeze two imaginary pillows above our head.
Snowy- We move our hands down in front of us in a slow, wavy
motion.
